Renee is a carefree, young 21-year-old on holiday in Italy with her best friend. There, she meets a handsome Italian man, and falls deeply in love. But this holiday, like all holidays, comes to an end, as does her Italian affair. Back in North Carolina, Renee marries her university boyfriend, raises a family and lives the life she had always imagined. However, any doubts she has about her marriage and her future surface when her best friend dies, and she unexpectedly comes face to face with her Italian lover of youth. Now, in middle age, she is once again offered the possibility of a love charged with passion, but the ties of family and the vows of marriage will force Renee to make the most painful decision of her life. And when Renee ends up back in Italy, this rocky journey of love lost and found will once again take some unexpected twists.
